AURAK launches Advanced Technology and Artificial Intelligence Center, as AI set to become a dominant job creator

 A World Economic Forum survey reveals that half of the companies surveyed were keen to adopt AI to create jobs

Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, August 1, 2024: The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) has launched the Advanced Technology and Artificial Intelligence Center(ATAIC), an innovative Information and Communications Technology (ICT) research center operating under the School of Engineering and Computing.  The launch of this center occurs against the backdrop of AI becoming the dominant job creator globally.

This is a significant development when viewed against the findings of the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs survey (2023) which revealed that nearly half (49%) of the companies surveyed were keen to adopt AI to create jobs, in contrast to the 23% of respondents who expect it to displace jobs.

CANADIAN UNIVERSITY DUBAI ENGINEERING TEAMS TRIUMPH IN THE 2024 IEEE STUDENT DAY COMPETITIONS

 Initiatives to promote robotics education, design and tackle food waste among winning projects

Release date, Dubai, UAE: Three teams of engineering students from Canadian University Dubai (CUD) have scored success in three different competition categories at the 18th edition of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Student Day, staged recently in the United Arab Emirates University, Al Ain.

The FoodGuardian application by Helia Haghighi and Sara Alameri from CUD’s Computer Science Department was one of the winners. 

A multidisciplinary engineering and computer science team secured first place and AED 3000 in prize money in the Community Service category for their project aimed at teaching robotics and programming to schoolchildren. An innovative food waste solution earned another CUD team third place and AED 1000 in prize money in the Software Engineering Project category, while a group of mechatronic students earned the same accolade in the Engineering Design Project category for constructing a manual robotic arm.

The winning Community Service project team consisted of mechatronics major Marwa Rashwan, computer networking engineering student Omar Awad, cyber security major Ibrahim Adel, and computer science student Jana Mahmoud. They impressed the panel of judges with their educational project, which involved organizing and leading workshops at various schools and within CUD using VEX IQ robotics programming to improve pupils’ science skills.

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, January 25, 2024: The inaugural Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) Entrepreneurship Courses concluded with 12 AI-based startup business plans presented at an on-campus event in Masdar City, with 22 students walking away with the entrepreneurial skills, tools, and networks needed to commercialize their AI solutions in the UAE, and three startups being fast-tracked for financial grants from MBZUAI.

Jointly launched by MBZUAI’s Incubation and Entrepreneurship Center (MIEC) and startAD, the Abu Dhabi-based startup accelerator powered by Tamkeen and anchored at NYU Abu Dhabi, the program aims to boost the AI startup ecosystem in Abu Dhabi.
